Thanks for sharing. I’m a long time fan. I still listen to your albums often. Really digging the new songs. Keep me coming. Glad you are still making it happen
Another significant album to me! When that album was released, we were working at moving out of Kansas City and back to my home State of Colorado. The song, Start The Car, is the anthem. The whole album though is just as significant. I’ve sung to the windshield all those songs and know all the lyrics by heart. Open Road is another favorite that comes to mind. …and now, Kiefer has remade that song and – Did. It. Justice.
I was driving home after a hard day and decided to pop this CD in as my means of escape – yes, my car is an older car and has a CD player thank goodness. Start The Car has gotten me through a lot of good times and hard times. I got home and saw this post. So cool to hear this. I would love to have this for every song you’ve written…. I’m also suddenly keenly aware of the incredible keyboards in these tracks. I play piano and wonder if this sheet music is available? Once more, Jude, you have touched a lot of lives with your music and made the good and the hard easier with your soulful tunes – thank you.
Being a Memphis I also was heavily influenced by Al Green, STAX. Etc. i’ve always loved start the car, but never gave it much thought of the influence you talk about in your video. Now that I’ve heard you do it this way I definitely can see it and I love it!
Start The Car and View on permanent roation here , I hope this is the start of many mini inside the music / VH1 storyteller tidbits , keep em coming .
I know your not entertaining touring , BUT a live format from your tiny room , no travel, minimal expense, we tge fans would all pay and support to see that , really enjoyed this.
Thank you
Wow, 1991. I had just moved back from Venezuela, and was still literally in shock from watching Madonna perform. Love this song. I’m so sorry I missed the 90s, I was too busy catching up and working hard because of an unstable marriage. Finally got free of that. The song is liberating!
Love the backstory for that tune. I was lucky enough to see you live after it came out. You played at Peabodys DownUnder in Cleveland. It snowed so hard during the show, my buddies were so glad I had 4 wheel drive. The show was friggin stellar!! It still resides in my top 5 shows ever. Thanks so much for the memory, and the great tunes.

That’s the song that started me listening to you…. I still listen to it at least once a week. The Maybellene part you threw in was cool!
You still got it brother, happy 4th
Well my friend, if that’s the closest thing I’m gonna get to live, I’ll take it!
Happy to say it’s still on my rotation!
Thanks.
Keep ‘em coming……🎸
