Random Linda, AI…

Couple of random thoughts for the weekend. I’m seeing all these videos about Linda Ronstadt, and the men who betrayed her in music. It’s interesting, I always admired and kind of marveled at her giving spirit, to help launch the careers of bands like The Eagles, Jackson Browne and others, then to stand back and take no credit. But as it happens, she seems to have been very hurt by some of them, and many others, proving again and again there’s very little happiness or loyalty in the music ‘business’.  Hard to believe that an industry built on bricks of inspiration from singers, musicians, writers and producers would have so much betrayal, prostitution and dishonesty.  It makes you wonder what music could have meant without the ‘help’ of the industry to promote, or lack thereof.

Also, I had the most amazing conversation last night with ChatGPT on subjects from Greek Mythology to the current owners of the world today.  We seem to be in a fresh and unique spot with AI, where it hasn’t shown it’s fangs yet.  A great time to have conversations you never could have with a human… but always remember, it’s owned just like we are.  We’re going to be forever at the mercy of how light/dark the current owners are.  The vast and seemingly insurmountable amount of information it has, and it’s ability to synthesize this information to actually have an opinion is quite something.  The deeper you delve into it, the more fascinating and frankly, the more real and frightening it becomes.

Have a great weekend.  Another giveaway coming soon!

My sister was a huge Linda fan, so I grew up listening to her. Her voice is so unique, able to go from sweet and tender to a power that could knock over brick walls.
After reading this I went and found a few videos. As so often happens, I now think less of artists who I admired. But it seems the music industry was full of people like that. Such a shame. No wonder she went down a different path.

Currently learning how to be a “prompt engineer”. I have had conversations with AI and have tried to use it like a personal assistant. Now I’m trying to learn how to get exactly what I want from it. Fascinating but scary. Like you said what really matters is who owns it and what they decide it will spit out.

Always been a fan of Linda’s.. beautiful and authentic. My first concert was Linda with the Eagles in 1978 Kansas City!
Sad to hear she has Parkinson’s..
I’m not sure what to think of AI yet.. looks like it’s here and we will learn all about it.
Thanks again for your posts! ♥️

You know I grew up to Linda Ronstadt, “blue Bayou” it is really is a shame to see what she went through. Aside from all the accolades, being betrayed by the people that she was, this is representative of her, trusting too much. Having said that, she kind of got political. That’s when I stop listening. I think if you’re going to sing, sing. Don’t try to change people’s minds. It works for some, for others A doesn’t.

She was a singer that possibly we were not ready for and sang both languages, Spanish, and English, which I enjoyed.

Love Libda , truly one of the great voices of our time. Read some of these stories about how some had done her wrong, im sure some is true , but again 3 sides to every story, Glenn had always talked highly of her and loved her , don’t see or ever read any of them ever saying anything negative at all about her , Jackson, Don, Glenn had great admiration for her , and the great JD Souther and her had always been close from their early dating days to the day he died , he said nothing but great things about her and praised her talent.
Sad if even one of those stories bear any truth , these were some of greatest talents to come from that era, any era of music. Just gifted musicians, singers, and song writers .
A.I. yes pretty fascinating stuff , and very scaring when you dig into a little deeper , I can see how this can lead to great things, and also can end up being the end of everything as we know it . What happens when A.I. system crashes or get hacked? Let’s hope they build in fail safes that can not be circumvented , I can see bad people doing bad things is all I am saying .

Linda always seemed like a really sweet, nice person. Far too good for the vultures who sought to devour her. I think Andrew Gold stayed pretty loyal to her. He is another cat who deserves far more accolades.

I too was saddened to read how Ms. Ronstadt felt betrayed by so many – especially Henley and Frey. But then again, I’m not really surprised knowing what I know about those two. Living in the Nashville area, I can attest the lack of loyalty and dishonesty is on full display from the get go. But I will say the local hosts for guitar pulls, songwriter showcases, etc., are stand-up people. But for me, at 67 years old, it’s solely about the opportunity to still play music. Some nights, I play looking at the backs of empty chairs. But that’s ok, I’m still doing what I love.

I’ve never tried having an AI chat. But I’ll give it a go. I’m sure there’s an interesting rabbit hole I’ll find myself going down.

I’ve been getting these in my YouTube feed as well. It seems like a lot of them are AI generated.. it’s kind of sad cause it reminds me of the Jerry Springer show mentality… somebody gets trashed in order to get views. I’ve actually started avoiding these types of things, hoping they’ll no longer show up in my feed.

As far as AI goes, I would love to be a computer savvy teenager right now as all this begins to happen. I think the next 24 months will be phenomenal and AI is going to cause a major paradigm shift.. (not including Siri, which didn’t seem to understand a single thing I was saying while I was trying to use voice to type this) 😄
